Recovery Support Specialist

Reports To: Clinical Supervisor/Clinic Director Salary Grade: 18 FLSA: Non-Exempt
Annualized Salary Range: $21,275 to $29,935


Primary Function: This position is established to serve as part of a team of support for adults and their families enrolled in the behavioral health system. It exists as a key role for the purpose of fulfilling the principles of the Adult Clinical Teams, whose purpose it is to:

“Provide guidance in establishing practice that effectively operationalizes and supports a “team” approach that is consistent with Arizona’s Principles of Person-Centered Planning for all adult behavioral health recipients.”

The Principles of Person-Centered Planning are:

? Services are developed with the understanding that the system has an unconditional commitment to its individual
? Services begin with empathic relationships that foster ongoing partnerships, expect equality and respect throughout the service delivery
? Services are developed collaboratively to engage and empower individuals, include other individuals involved in the individual’s live, including meaningful choice, and are accepted by the individual.
? Services are individualized, strength-based and are clinically sound
? Services are developed with the expectation that the individual is capable of positive change, growth and leading a life of value

Under immediate to general supervision under clinical supervision of the related case manager, the Recovery Support Specialist provides peer support services; serves as a consumer advocate; provides consumer information and peer support for consumers in outpatient and community settings. The Recovery Support Specialist performs a wide range of tasks to assist consumers in regaining control over their own lives and over their own recovery process. The Recovery Support Specialist will role model competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED preferred, past or current involvement with the adult behavioral health system; demonstrated experience with advocacy; well grounded in your recovery (for a minimum of one year) and any paid work experience in related behavioral health field. Must become fully certified with DPS fingerprinting requirements.

? Ability to present to small groups or training skills is an asset to this position
? Ability to maintain confidentiality of all client matters and handle organizational confidential matters with discretion, never discussing any activities internal or external with any individual except designed case manager.

Tasks:
? Assist individuals in articulating personal goals for recovery
? Assist client in determining the objectives the consumer needs to take in order to reach his or her recovery goals.
? Promotes family participation at all levels within the System of Care
? Assists consumers in creating a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP)
? Linkages with client's natural supports, to facilitate transitioning levels of recovery and back into the community.
? Utilize and teach problem solving techniques with individuals and groups
? Documentation of services provided on progress notes.
? Works intensively with the client to identify needs, strengths, goals, formal and informal supports, family culture and concerns to be presented in Adult Clinical Team meetings.
? Identifies additional formal supports available in the community and help the client connect with them
? Assists clients in arranging transportation as needed.
? May provide transportation if determined necessary, with agency vehicles.
? Conduct outreach activities to re-engage clients in services.

Accountability: Recovery Support Specialist will work under the immediate supervision of assigned case manager, following detailed instructions and policies and procedures. This position holds no supervisory responsibility, responsible for own work only.

Continuous Education: Employees will be expected to participate in continuous learning,
competence building and maintenance of skills. New employees are required to complete forty-eight hours of skill training the first year and twenty-four hours per year thereafter.

Physical Requirements:
• Use a Personal Computer of telephone up to five hours a day
• Frequent or prolonged travel.
• Occasional reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling or crouching
• Light physical effort (infrequent lift/carry up to 25 pounds)
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle

Working Conditions:
• Work is performed in structured environments, office, community, client’s homes and a variety of settings. When dispatched to private homes, provisions for safety are prearranged. Working hours are flexible in order to ensure accessible services to clients, families and other agencies (i.e. some meetings may occur prior to 8:00a.m., after 5 p.m., or on weekends, etc.) Working conditions with some disagreeable factors present such as poor ventilation, uneven temperature, excessive noise, or exposure to external elements.

Mentor Scope of Responsibility:
• A mentor provides side by side, hands on shadowing, with consistent and constructive feedback. The mentor oversees accuracy, as well as verbal and visual skills with on-going communication to the direct supervisor.
